At age 21 he attained a U.S. Coast Guard 100-ton Masters Near-Coastal License. For over nineteen years he's worked as a marine surveyor inspecting commercial and pleasure vessels, marinas and marine facilities and all manner of cargoes.

...had more than 55 years experience in the marine industry and 42 years as a marine surveyor. He's worked for a yacht builder and a houseboat renovation company. During college he shipped out in the U.S. Merchant Marine and traveled the world on freighters, tankers and sea-going tugs. He continued his maritime career on the inland waters of the U.S. as a deck hand, engineer and field service technician for various barge lines. In New Orleans from 1980 to 1986 he surveyed deep draft ships, oil field support and supply vessels, fishing, research and passenger vessels, as well as inland barges, towboats and yachts. He also attended wooden Boat School in Brooklin, Maine and continues to pursue educational opportunities that add to the breadth and diversity of his knowledge. He and his partner, Debbie Weeter, founded Riverlands Marine Surveyors and Consultants, Inc. in July 1986 in their hometown of Louisville, Kentucky.
